 Stones and Crystals can be dirty when you bring them home. Simply washing them in warm, soapy water and gently drying them is a great method. Be cautioned that extreme temperature change, hot or cold, can crack or break a stone or crystal. Crystals are well known for absorbing and retaining more than just fingerprints. They can retain psychic energy too, from anyone that handles them.  

Crystal aficionados agree that you should cleanse and clear new crystals whenever you acquire them, and, you should not allow anyone to handle them. Crystals can lose their focus, their energy level can dissipate, and they may have less power to affect and change our life, after people have handled them.  

Crystals have been around and resourcefully used for many purposes longer than recorded time! They have more power inside than we can possibly imagine! And, their ability to re-cleanse and re-program makes them invaluable. But, Crystals will “fill with energy” after prolonged use. You’ll know, because when you pick them up, after sitting unused,  instead of feeling ice cold (which is how a cleared & cleansed Crystal feels), they’ll feel room temperature. So, you’ll know it’s time to re-cleanse. But, anytime Crystals are used for healing purposes, it’s always a good practice to re-cleanse them. Crystals have excellent memories, so re-programming isn’t necessary.  

CLEANSING METHODS  

Dry Sea Salt  

Sea Salt has long been associated with natural purification. It’s the traditional, dependable method to both clear & cleanse semi-precious stones & crystals. Soft semi-precious stones, such as Opal, will either crack or break using this method.  

Dry Sea Salt can be re-used. You will want to allow your semi-precious stones & crystals a minimum of 7 days to clear & cleanse. Do not use a plastic bag or corrosive container. When you take them out of the dry Sea Salt, just wash the salt dust off using warm water, and gently dry, before programming them. 

SEA SALT SOAK  

Salt is a crystal itself, so it stands to reason that it’s the natural method for clearing and cleansing crystals. Unfortunately, salt in liquid form can work its way into any hairline cracks and fissures that crystals may have, even those that are practically invisible to the naked eye. That could damage the crystal.  

If you want to soak your crystals in Sea Salt water, make sure that that they are solid, without fractures or breaks that could make them vulnerable to further damage. If you want to immerse your crystals in a container of salted water, consider wrapping them in cloth first. I have never personally used this method – but, I’ve never owned a “solid” or “perfect” crystal either!  

SMUDGING  

For centuries, people in almost every culture have burned herbs for emotional and Spiritual purification. In Western cultures, for example, it’s a Spiritual belief to burn incense as a way to carry one’s prayers to heaven.  

The Native American practice of smudging is one that seems to work especially well cleansing crystals. Smudge sticks are simply natural bundles of dried herbs; i.e., cedar, sage, and/or lavender, wrapped and securely bound. They look a little like big, fat cigars. They can be found at Metaphysical, Spiritual, and Esoteric stores.  

When you light the end of a Smudge stick; gently blow out the flame, but don’t blow so hard that you extinguish the smudge stick completely. You want the tip to glow red, like incense, so that it continues to smolder and smoke  

You can either pass your crystals in the smoke of the smudge stick, use a feather to gently fan the smoke over and around them, or, create a mini-(fire-proof)-sweat lodge for your crystals. The latter would require a creative mind, and constant supervision.  

If a smudge stick is safely and carefully extinguished, than properly stored, it can be re-used for the same purpose again. So, be sure to label your storage container with the purpose for that Smudge Stick.  

POTPOURRI 

There are dozens of methods to Cleanse & Clears Semi-Precious Stones & Crystals. They range from putting them in a cheesecloth bag, and submerging them in a “babbling fresh water brook on a Full Moon” to setting them out, in full reception of the moonlight, for the 3 nights of a Full Moon. A Full Moon is a cleansing Moon. The freezer method is definitely not one to try, unless you want several unpolished stones and crystals in your hand when you take one out of the freezer!  

PROGRAMMING CRYSTALS  

After your Crystal is Cleared & Cleansed, it’s time to Program. You’re going to infuse your psychic energy into your Crystal without complications, or consequences when you use it.  

Hold the Crystal in your hands and say:

“Whether I help many,

Or whether I help one,

My power with this Crystal

Will be used for good;

The process and intent will harm none.” 

The Crystal now has your positive focus and intent infused into it, and that’s how it will work with you, without mistakes, complications or consequences. It’s time to hold the Crystal in your left hand; your left side is your Psychic side. Programming will require approximately 20 minutes. 

The Crystal was ice cold when you initially put it in your hands. As soon as you activate a programmed Crystal, it will feel hot to the touch. Every time you’re going to use your Crystal again, you will need to activate it, but it won’t require 20 minutes to feel hot, just when it’s initially programmed.  

Now, to program your Crystal, just sit quietly and hold your Crystal. Eventually you’ll feel it begin to feel warm, than much warmer. Soon, it will begin to pulse in your hand, than it will get very, very warm! You will know without question, when your Crystals are programmed and activated! The Clear Quartz Crystal is an excellent tool to open the Third Eye (located in the middle of the forehead), when it’s activated.    

There are several ways to keep your Crystal with you. The most beneficial and common places people carry their Crystals are: The left pants pocket, left side of their bra (heart Chakra), left shirt pocket.  

Laundry Oops! Sometimes Semi-Precious Stones & Crystals are accidentally left in pockets, and go through the laundry process.  You’ll discover a re-clearing & re-programming is needed. They’ll get seriously energy scrambled during that experience!
